HEALTH BLOG-Women with type 2 diabetes who have entered the post-menopuase high risk of breast cancer. Excess weight or obesity allegedly closely associated with the occurrence of cancer.
International team of researchers in a report in the British Journal of Cancer, examined 40 studies on the link between breast cancer and diabetes. The study involved more than 56,000 women with breast cancer.
Women who suffer from Type 2 diabetes and has entered the post-menopausal cancer risk by 27 percent. However, the increased risk was not seen in women with type 1 diabetes.
According Prof.Peter Boyle, president of the International Prevention Research Institute, scientists did not have a clear mechanism behind the increased risk of cancer.
"Obesity has a strong association with type 2 diabetes, and the effect is rather the activity of hormones that may influence the process of cancer growth," said Boyle, who led the study.
Although the link between breast cancer and type 2 diabetes is not yet clear but related to excess body weight is clear, therefore women are advised to maintain healthy weight.
