HEALTH BLOG - Pain during intercourse can be an obstacle in achieving satisfaction. Hence the use of artificial lubricants or lubricant may be an option for women who experience vaginal dryness problems.



In the United States alone, an estimated 62 percent of women use artificial lubricants during sex, and 25 percent of them use it regularly before penetration.


But there are some opinions that say the artificial lubricants can interfere with fertility because it would reduce the ability of sperm to swim, and even damage the chromosomes.


In fact, quite a lot of couples who are trying to conceive more in need of lubricants for vaginal dryness.


Dr.Anne Steiner of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, conducted a study to determine whether an artificial lubricant does interfere with fertility.


The study used data collected between 2008 and 2010 in a survey that focused on fertility to see what factors affect the fertility of women aged 30-44 years.


Of the total 175 women, all of them are trying to get pregnant when the study began. For six months or less, if they manage to get pregnant, the women's record at any time they had sex and whether they use an artificial lubricant.


A woman was categorized as regular users if they use at least 50 percent of the time of intercourse. If less than that is considered rare.


As many as 63 percent of this group of women studied had become pregnant within six months. Of these, approximately 73 percent are regular users of artificial lubricants, and 63 percent of non-users of lubricants.


Steiner concludes that there is essentially no chance of pregnancy difference between the use of artificial lubricants that do not. In addition, no association was found also between the low cervical mucus with the use of lubricants.


In his report, Steiner said lubricating material may be made by the TIDA reach the top of the vagina where the sperm is usually left behind. Or another possibility of sperm may swim quickly to the cervix so that no longer exposed to the lubricant.


The use of lubricants is also suspected pregnancy because it helps the couple to be having sex more often without the need to bothered pain.
