1. Brown
Avoid caffeine in foods such as chocolate, tea, soda and coffee during the menstrual cycle. Caffeine constricts blood vessels and makes your body dehydrated, which can cause headaches and can increase anxiety during the menstrual period, causing menstrual discomfort.
2. Dairy products
Milk contains arachadonic acid, which can increase the production of prostaglandins. Because prostaglandins are released into the body, the uterus responds by causing cramps or spasms.
Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids may inhibit the release of prostaglandins. Thus, eating salmon, flaxseed and walnuts can actually help relieve menstrual cramps.
3. Processed foods
Reduce intake of sodium or salt will reduce water retention and bloating. Avoid canned foods, processed foods such as canned meat and cheese products, sauces and MSG, as well as any packaged foods that contain sodium 200 mg or more per serving.
4. Fried
High-fat foods such as meat, full-fat dairy, fried foods and oils increased levels of estrogen in the body. Changes in estrogen can lead to dramatic changes in the uterus and cause cramping and pain.
