HEALTH BLOG, Kompas - endocrine disorders can cause a variety of diseases, ranging from malnutrition, thyroid, diabetes, heart problems, hypertension, to malignant tumors of the digestive system. Endocrine disorders are usually caused by changes in lifestyle that tend to leave a healthy pattern.
It was discussed in a scientific symposium "Endocrine Development, Diagnosis, and Therapy" in Ivory Pluit Hospital, Saturday (14/7). Benny Santosa, the chairman of the symposium, said the event in cooperation with the Alumni Association Justus-Liebig Giessen Universiteit (ILJUGI), Faculty of Medicine, University of Giessen, Germany.
The endocrine glands produce hormones "messenger" which will be followed up by other organs.
According to Benny, eight endocrine glands, the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland in the brain; thyroid gland (goiter) in the front of the neck; parathyroid glands near the thyroid gland; adrenal gland (suprarenalis) at the poles on the left and right kidneys; glands gonads (sex ) in the testis and ovary; pancreas gland; thymus gland below the breastbone. Gland disorders that can cause different diseases.
Disorders occur most commonly in the pancreatic gland that raises diabetes. It reached 75 percent of overall endocrine disorders. Another annoyance is the thyroid gland, causing thyroid disease (15-20 percent). The rest of the other gland disorders that gave rise to various diseases, such as erectile dysfunction, hormonal disorders, pituitary disorders, and even malignancy (cancer).
Benny also discuss the metabolic syndrome, a collection of risk factors for cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) caused by diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia (abnormal lipid metabolism). The prevalence of this syndrome increases with economic development, especially in developing countries. This is related to the change in eating patterns that higher fat, sugar, salt, and less fiber and less movement.
Annette Hauenshild, endocrinologist physicians from Germany, reviewed the hormonal disorder caused by endocrine disruptors. Hormonal disorders, according to Annette, can lead to malnutrition or excess nutrients. Incorrect nutrition or digestive system disorders can also cause hormonal regulation disorder. (IND)
